Indonesia's Bashir escapes terror questioning
Indonesian police say they have postponed plans to question jailed Muslim cleric Abu
Bakar Bashir as a terrorism suspect.
The move comes after Bashir and his lawyers said the summons for questioning, was
legally flawed.
Lawyer Mohammad Assegaf says the summons was rejected because it was only
issued yesterday.
He says police must submit a summons three days before a planned interrogation.
A director of the national police anti-terrorism branch, Brigadier General Pranowo,
says a suspect who refuses to co-operate must be summoned three times before he
can be forcibly taken away for questioning.
Last week Bashir promised to co-operate with the police investigation as long as they
did not try to keep him in jail during the inquiry.
Bashir, 65, is due to be freed on Friday after serving a sentence for immigration
offences.
