National Police Invites the FBI to Investigate Pekanbaru Bombing
TEMPO Interactive, Pekanbaru, Riau:The National Police headquarters (HQ) has
invited the US Federal Bureau Investigation (FBI) to help in the investigation of the
recent bombing that took place on Soekarno Hatta street, Pekanbaru, Riau, on
Tuesday morning (04/05).
Riau Police chief, Brig. Gen. Deddy Sutardi Komaruddin, made this statement to
reporters in Pekanbaru on Thursday (06/05).
The FBI then sent an officer, Michael Haas, to help in the investigation of the
bombing.
"Haas was brought by the National Police team to help Riau Police in the
investigation of the bombing incident," stated Komaruddin.
Up to Thursday (06/5), a joint police team was still looking for other evidence at the
bombing location and questioning seven witnesses.
During the incident, the bomb killed two people and also destroyed a shophouse,
owned by a local resident named Along , and the CNI office.
In the incident, Irwanto, 25, the bomb victim found outside the building, was reportedly
named as one of the bombing suspects.
Irwanto, now being treated at the Ibnu Sina hospital, Pekanbaru, is under tight guard
by police personnel who are taking turns to guard him at the hospital.
Komaruddin declined to explain anything about Irwanto.
However, Komaruddin stated," So far, we are yet able to name any suspect in this
case. However, we have secured evidence, including the shirt used by Mr. Irwanto, as
