In front of the largest crowd ever in Northwestern Hockey history the Eagles did something that no one thought possible. They won. This is the first win for the hockey program in its two year history. Team President Ryan Woytcke told the press after the game: "we knew we were going to see a tougher Bethel team tonight after tying them last time. We knew we needed to respond tonight if we wanted to make it a hockey game and we did just that." What makes Northwestern's 6-3 win over Bethel's JV so interesting is two different points. The first point is that Northwestern actually faced tougher goaltending from Bethel tonight. In last week's tie, Bethel had Roseville's starting goaltender from the girls' varsity sub in for them. Tonight Bethel played their actual starting goaltender from Bethel College. The second interesting point is that five different Eagles provided the scoring. The teams leading scorer Ryan Woeltge had two goals. Ryan Priola bagged his first goal of the season as well did defenseman Andy Schurman. Ryan Woytcke and Dustin Woeltge each added one as well. When you can get scoring from five different players on six goals, that says something about your teams ability to produce.
The Eagles will practice twice before going in to the Christmas break. They then will be back in action against the Bethel Royals for the third and final time this season January 21st at the Fairgrounds Coliseum. Face off time is 9:45pm. The Northwestern Eagles are now 1-1-1 on the season.
