Black Bears

"Black Bear Photos I Took"

When we moved up to this area "Sidney" was the only bear we ever saw. He was huge 500-600 lbs and a real sweety. I don't think he would hurt a fly. He was like the neighborhood dog that hung around looking for handouts and when none came he would just go on his way. We really enjoyed seeing him. Unlucky for him he was hit by a car and had to be destroyed several years ago. It was a very sad day.

across the street from my house, a cub Sidney, a real sweety Sidney trying to get my bug zapper, he thought it was a feeder

June 2000

bear I chased off of the trail same bear

June has been an exciting month so far. We have seen 3 black bears, one of which I was able to get 2 photos of. He was a medium sized bear and on the trail in front of us. When he heard us, he jumped off of the trail and waited for us to pass. Once I took these 2 photos of him and began down the trail he came back on the trail behind us and continued on his way. Talla was quite nervous with him coming in our direction but once I settled her down we walked very slow; if the bear had been following us he would have had plenty of time to catch up with us but we never saw him again.

The second bear was quite large; he was also on the trail in front of us. When he heard us, he bolted and was gone in a flash.

The third bear was very little. He was so very cute, if he had wanted to follow, I think I would have invited him home. He was so tiny and so cute, maybe he weighed 75 lbs.
