DESCENDENTS OF HANNAH THORNTON WALLACE

Hannah Thornton, sister of Hon. Matthew Thornton, b. 1774, married William Wallace of Londonderry, NH.

WALLACE FAMILY

This family was of Scotch origin. The ancestor was John Wallace, who came from Coleraine, Ireland, to Londonderry, NH in 1717, and there married Annis Barnet in 1721. The Scotch records show that there was born in the parish of Glasgow on September 28, 1682, to James Wallace and Agnes Wood, a son John. The John Wallace who came to America in 1719 named his first son (b. 1722) James and it seems probable that the Glasgow record refers to the ancestor of this family. William Wallace, son of John Wallace and Annis Barnet, was born in 1725 and died in 1805. His wife Hannah Thornton Wallace died in 1814 and is buried beside her father, James Thornton, in Forest Hills Cemetery at East Derry, NH.

The children of Hannah Thornton and William Wallace, born between 1754 and 1772, were: 1. Mary (1754-1756); 2. John; 3. Willliam; 4. Catharine; 5. James; 6. Hannah; and 7. Matthew.

John Wallace, b. 1757; married and settled in Thornton, NH; died about 1850; descendents not traced.

William Wallace, b. 1758; settled at Niagara, Canada prior to 1800; remained there until 1812. William was known to be a good friend of Joseph Brandt, chief of the Mohawks. With his brother James, he owned 40,000 acres of land on Grand River. Th is property was confiscated, and with no property in Canada, the brothers returned to NY, where William finally settled in Rochester. He married Anna Doudal in 1795; their children, born between 1798 and 1811: 1. Matthew Thornton; 2. Charity; 3. Hannah; 4. William H.; 5. James J.; 6. John W.; and 7. Frances A.

Catharine Wallace, daughter of Hannah Thornton Wallace, maried Capt. James Cox of Londonderry, NH. They resided in Holderness, NH. Their children, born between 1793 and 1804, were: 1. William Wallace; 2. James; 3. Mary; 4. Hannah Wallace; 5. Leonard J.; and 6. Caroline.
William Wallace Cox married Hannah Kimball in 1817. They resided in Holderness, NH. Their children, born between 1819 adn 1835, were: 1. William H.; 2. Carleton A.; 3. Edmund K.; 4. Benjamin F.; 5. William W.; and 6. Catherine A.
Edmund K. Cox married Nancy D. Merrill, and they had two children, one of whom, Emma G., married Joshiah H. Sargent of Plymouth, NH.
Benjamin F. Cox married Ann F. Currier, and their son, George B., was born in 1860. He resided in Laconia, NH.

James Cox, son of Catharine Wallace Cox, married Ann E. Rogers and resided in Thornton, NH. Their children, born between 1824 and 1831, were: 1. James W.; 2. Susan E.; 3. John M.; 4. Rachel R.; 5. Mary E.;6. Amelia A.; 7. Daniel W.; and 8. James W.
Susan E. Cox married Leslie D. Scribner; resided in Thornton, NH. Their children, born between 1848 and 1870, were: 1. Willis G.; 2. Lizzie J.; 3. Clara A.; 4. Nellie E.; 5. Susan W.; Josie M.; 7. Olive L.; and 8. Harry M.
Mary E. Cox, daughter of James Cox, married Levi E. Fifield, and resided in Worcester, MA. Their children, born between 1858 and 1862, were: 1. Annie Laurie; 2. Mary L.; 3. Alice H. Annie Laurie Fifield married George W. Knapp, residing in Stoneham, MA. Child: William Bruce, born 1886.
Daniel W. Cox, son of James Cox, married Emma P. Curry, residing in Lakeport, NH. Their children, born between 1867 and 1875, were: 1. John M.; 2. Jessie E.; and 3. Grace E.
James Cox, son of James Cox, married Josephine Mooney, residing in Washington, D.C.; one child, Willis, b. 1872.

Leonard J. Cox, sone of Catherine Wallace Cox, married Mary Clark, residing in Holderness, NH. Their children, born between 1826 and 1844, were: 1. Catharine W.; 2. Arthur C.; 3. Electa A.; 4. Mathilda J.; 5. James L.; 6. Lemuel M.; 7. Charles P.; and 8. Mary A.

James Wallace, son of Hananh Thornton Wallace, b. 1763, resided in Buffalo and died there in 1853 without issue.

Hannah Wallace, daughter of Hannah Thornton Wallace, b. 1765, died 1814; single.

Matthew Wallace, son of Hannah Wallace Thornton, b. 1772; d. 1775.
