of the
DESCENDANTS OF JAMES THORNTON
1718-1912
You are cordially invited to attend the first meeting of the descendants of JAMES THORNTON, on Memorial Day, May 30, 1912, in Boson, Massachusetts.
Boston is an appropriate place for this meeting, as it was at the small wharf at the foot of State Street in that City, where James Thornton and his family landed on August 4, 1718 on their way from Londonderry, Ireland to form a colony at Casco Bay, Maine.
Memorial Day is an appropriate time for this meeting, it being the day set apart for us to honor the memory of those who gave their lives for their country. Decendants of James Thornton served in eight wars, in which they made a distinguished record.
The call for this meeting is signed by the desendants of James Thornton who represent six of his eight children. The coming together of representatives of so many different branches of the family will be most interesting, and we may learn much about the history of the family and may see many interesting things connected with the history of our ancestors.
The meeting will be held at Young's Hotel, where there will be an informal gathering from two until four o'clock in the afternoon, and a dinner at seven o'clock, at which adresses will be made.
It is hoped that as many as possible will attend the meeting. This invitation includes all who have become members of the Thornton family by marriage.
If you intend to attend the dinner, kindly sign the enclosed card and send it to Mr. Gordon Woodbury, 48 Hanover Street, Manchester, N.H.
There will be a trip by automobile to Londonderry and Thornton's Ferry, N.H., on May 31.
Signed on behalf of the Thornton Family, this 30th day of March, 1912.
