New Zealand Flag to be flown at
half-mast for funeral of Princess Alice The Queen’s aunt, Princess
Alice, Duchess of Gloucester, has died. She died peacefully in her sleep on
Friday 29th October, at Kensington Palace, London.
Princess Alice was just two months short of her 103rd birthday. Princess Alice was the widow
of the late Henry, Duke of Gloucester, third son of King George V, and the
mother of Richard, Duke of Gloucester. Her granddaughter, Lady Davina
Windsor, was recently married to Gary Lewis, a New Zealander. The New Zealand flag should
be flown at half-mast on the day of the funeral of a member of the Royal
Family. The funeral of Princess Alice will be held on Friday 5th November. The New Zealand
Flag Institute accordingly calls upon New Zealander’s to observe this date in
the appropriate manner. New Zealand Flag Institute 4th November 2004 New Zealand Flag Day to be
marked more widely in 2005 The New Zealand Flag is now
into its 136th year. The anniversary of the flag on 23

Institute calls upon New Zealander’s to make Flag Day an annual celebration. The New Zealand Flag
Institute invites all New Zealander’s to join together in celebrating our
foremost national symbol. Our flag is a unifying force, and Flag Day should
be an annual opportunity to focus on national pride. New Zealand Flag Institute 1st November 2004 |
