That Truth Is In You
The Chosen Ones
by TracyCee

Waaaaay back in 1993 (when we all walked ten miles to school each day), the world was different. The X-Files was a beloved mini-cult, and not the media phenomenon it has become. Fans were a select group, specially annointed by CC, speaking a unique language no outsiders could understand. They were the Chosen Ones, and 9 p.m. Friday was their weekly hour of communion.

Since then, their ranks have become polluted by the masses. These masses cannot possibly understand the light that graced the Chosen Ones in the early years, endowing them with special knowledge and insight that separates them from the Late-Comers.

The Late-Comers are joyful in their newfound discovery. True, their communion is now held during the obscenely popular 9 p.m. Sunday timeslot. True, the secret messages have even been transmitted through the ominous Big Screen, where millions could partake of them. Yet these Late-Comers are much satisfied. They rejoice in the light which shines for them. They join with many of the Chosen Ones who continue to feel the brilliance of the light.

Yet to a few of the Chosen Ones, their special light has become diluted by the sheer numbers of the masses. For only when they were few did the light shine at its most brilliant--and most entertaining. For them, we must search our hearts for compassion, for it is a sad thing to have found the light, only to lose one's way in the darkness.

Or something like that. : )
