A Letter From 1013...?

In response to this recent post by "SuperJamie"...
"Oh, my God! I'm so sorry! People do have sex on beds! I hope
the boys at 1013 don't hear about my post they might just come crashing
through my door and take -- No! Chris! Frank! Stop! Please don't take
away my television! I won't inadvertently mention something that might
have led to a sexual thought for Mulder & Scully ever again.
Honest!"
Dear Jamie,
We at 1013 have made arrangements for the immediate removal of your
television and we would suggest that you use the time to give serious
thought to the state of your moral health.
It would appear that the time has come to remind the fan base of a few
basic facts about the pure, devoted, ideal relationship that exists
between Mulder and Scully. Certain posters on this board are a danger to
all true X Philes. They have a warped and twisted perception that the
idyllic, loving, caring, platonic relationship between Mulder and Scully
demands the S*X factor. This ludicrous point of view can only possibly
be based on the highly questionable morals and values held by these
posters..
This is intended for all those fans who refer to themselves as
"shippers" and who may have been exposed to the corrupt
thought processes of the poster called Jamie and another young woman who
calls herself Tracy.
The following are just some of the reasons why Mulder and Scully will
never have to degrade themselves with the S*X word or anything that
could even become close to the suggestion that the S*X act might
actually take place.
1. Scully is a Goddess
2. This is just so obvious, but a timely reminder is needed given the
seriousness of this situation. Scully and Mulder are NOT, repeat NOT
married. They are not even engaged to be married so why would any viewer
expect a level of intimacy that went beyond hand holding? Is anyone
seriously suggesting that our two heroes would indulge in pre-marital
activities? We think not.
3. Mulder is only 37 and Scully is only 35. Recent medical research
clearly indicates the dangers of indulging in these sorts of activities
too early in life. As befits young people of their age, Mulder and
Scully are still enjoying simple, healthy pursuits free from the strain
and responsibility that comes with intimate relationships.
4. True fans of The X Files will know that we, the writers, devised a
plot line that can only possibly mean that Scully will never have to
concern herself with the sordid and messy S*X act.
Scully is unable to have babies. The only possible reason for Scully to
even think about "that" sort of thing would be to produce a
baby of her very own. Why else would Scully indulge in that sort of
behaviour? No decent self respecting female would entertain the notion
of such a thing unless it was to satisfy the natural, overwhelming urge
to become a Mother. It was our duty as writers to ensure that The
Goddess remained Scully The Unsullied for ever. You would do well to
remember that no matter what boys might say, when it comes to finding a
wife, all of them are looking for a good girl like Scully.
5. Whilst Mulder may have been allowed the occasional indulgence in the
past, the consequences of such acts send a clear moral message to
viewers. We all know that a certain pastime can seriously affect the
eyesight and many episodes clearly show Mulder wearing spectacles. Any
more serious breaches of moral character shown by either Mulder or
Scully are, of course, immediately and rightly punished by either fire,
brimstone or plague. This mirroring of real life situations is a
strength of The X Files of which we are justifiably proud.
6. The notion that valuable screen time should be devoted to intimacy
between the two characters is clearly misguided. Mulder and Scully are
often depicted as enjoying their many interests and hobbies and we are
certain that fans would far rather see these little glimpses of their
private lives than the sordid alternative you suggest. Mulder is often
portrayed as a keen sportsman who appears to enjoy both indoor and
outdoor games.
Scully, when not needed to assist her partner, devotes her life to good
works for the church. In a future episode it will be seen that when at
home, waiting for Mulder to call, Scully indulges her keen interest in
embroidery. These little moments of character development can hardly be
matched by intimacy between two people who are co-workers.
7. David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are both talented and
sophisticated actors. To ask them to demean themselves in this
inappropriate manner could only lead to both of them immediately seeking
alternative roles which would more accurately reflect the male/female
bond. Not something any of us would want.
8. The X Files has won international acclaim and is shown in many
countries. We are talking about adult, well written, drama of a superb
quality. You suggest that we compromise our reputations for work of this
quality and introduce an intimate relationship that would very probably
involve the S*X factor.
Do you really think an international audience is going to appreciate an
intimate relationship between two thirty-somethings who have only known
each other for six years? Why? They do care for each other deeply and
there may be some hint of attraction between the two of them but the
hardly credible plot device you suggest could only make us a laughing
stock around the world.
Mulder and Scully may care for each other in a brother/sister sort of
way but the platonic nature of this relationship means that they can
devote their lives to their one true passion. The dramatic edge for
which The X Files is famous has come from alien chasing and monster
catching. This will never be compromised by the sort of slushy romantic
stuff you girlies like..
9. Scully is a Goddess
If you can demonstrate that you are able to change your ways and adopt a
more moral lifestyle, consideration will be given to the return of your
television.
