Who are you? ![]() You've probably heard about the gaffe made on BBC News 24 last week. If not, they were meant to be interviewing a computer expert (a white, bearded man) about the Apple v Beatles court case. Apparently they went out into the foyer, shouted out the expert's name and a gentleman waiting in reception put his hand up. What with the pressures of live TV, they miked him up, sat him down and started to interview him. Only afterwards did they discover that they had interviewed the computer expert's taxi driver (a black man with a French accent). A video of the interview can be seen here. I'd heard about the story over the weekend, but only managed to track down the video today - worth a watch. I'm sure the BBC are not alone in mistaking a person's identity. I doubt if many of us could deny asking a perfect stranger a question about what we're going to have for dinner down a supermarket aisle, or something more intimate perhaps? I remember at the age of 7 or 8 going to the public library with my Grandfather. After picking my 3 books (The Hardy Boys probably) from the childrens' section, I dashed up to the adult section and flung myself on the back of an aged gentleman bending over to look at the selection of oversized print books on the bottom shelf. I don't know who was most shocked - me or the total stranger. 2006-05-16 17:06:59 GMT

Yes, this is one of the more amusing things to make it into the news lately. His expression as he realises what's happened is very funny.

According to one of the dailies he isn't a taxi driver ... he was there repairing something. Whether it's true is debateable of course.

At least the Beeb didn't hide it.

Another source is reporting that he was there for a job interview. That first look he gives when he is introduced is priceless.

Remember the face - it'll be in all the 'End of Year' quiz shows. And that's a guarantee!

I remember once jumping into the drivers seat of 'our car' in the high street and wondering who the hell had the nerve to be sitting in the passenger seat, the woman never said a word but the look of horror on her face said it all. "Sorry luv wrong car" was all I could mumble as I made a very quick exit.

I see that Channel 4 wasted no time before rubbing salt into the BBC's wounds this evening...

http://www.channel4.com/player/playerwindow.html?id=5025&vert=news The problem is that the 'joke' seems to somewhat fall flat on its face...I feel they over egged the pudding.

That's funny Stu - but then again I can feel for the woman's horror at having a stranger jump in her car. Just imagine what might have happened if she'd jumped out of the car screaming ...

Indeed. On my birthday a couple of years ago I had arranged to meet some friends at their car after work, so we could all drive back to the old homestead for a big drink up.

When I got to the carpark (it was dark) I saw the car, strode purposefully up to it and banged on the window. Only for a total stranger to turn round with a look of horror on her face. I turned round to see my friends car (same make, model and colour) on the other side of the carpark. Of course, my attempts to shout an explanation probably didn't help...

I never realised these near car jacking experiences were so common. No wonder the UK needs 2.5 million CCTV cameras.

That's funny Sean...it's your newbie here Trish is the name and I look forward to interacting with you via posts, comments and the responses to those comments. I don't really chat on line I do all my conversing though my blogs and my friends blogs. I don't believe that all posts always need a comment just those that interest you or me. HOWEVER I do believe in USING this 360. I am an addict...which is better than Drinking and Drugs I guess. I often blog several times a day about anything. Often putting quizzes, jokes, weird or odd news, whatever stikes my fancy actually. I have pictures in my folder and usually update them regurlary...at least any holiday's. I use flicker every week by putting funny pictures I have found or been emailed. I do like to recieve forwards and often you will find them on my page as well. Like I said having a 360 is stupid if you don't use it so I stress that everyone blog and comment.

Welcome to my blog Cappy. I'm afraid I'm not quite as prolific a blogger as you, but hopefully you'll get a flavour of life this side of the pond through the postings I make.
