So, what have we learnt today?
3 or 4 helpings of stuff and nonsense every week. Come and get it while it's hot.
Excel-lent

I've got to admit that I find Excel one of the best applications on my PC.  Many people I work with use it solely as a glorified calculator (my boss has been seen to actually type the numbers into the cells, then use a desk calculator to add up the numbers!).

In addition to selecting random tracks to play (see "I've been doing this for years") I find myself using the program almost everyday.  The new version on Office XP Pro has an excellent help function - I usually spurn all offers of help that animated paperclips etc. try to provide, but this facility is helpful in that you type what you want to do and it will try to guide you to the correct function.

I started off in my first job using Lotus 1-2-3 and begun to get hooked on spreadsheets there.  The ability to produce pie charts, line graphs and bar charts should never be underestimated.  I've kept a track of every lottery number drawn and have graphs to show the distribution of numbers.  Using the information gathered from the graphs has netted me an impressive £10!

Through university I was able to track my spending down to the last penny and find out that I spent more on alcohol and takeaways than on books and stationery - a fact I would never have known without a spreadsheet!

My latest function find has been CONCATENATE - putting the contents of 2 cells together into a single cell.

[Note to self: In future, don't start off with a blog title, then try to write about something you may find interesting, but other people probably won't]

I strongly dislike (trying to avoid the over-use of the word hate) that paperclip. I had never used a spread sheet program until I started this online Medical Coding and Billing course I am taking. After basic office information they moved in to Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint. And I have to say. it was so much fun! I have always been a numbers and lists type of person and the Excel program was like a customized show place for details that, sadly I find, at least around my house, I am the only one interested in... When we started selling CBX motorcycle parts I charted listing prices, selling prices, length of time listed, discounts given, freight charges and profits, areas sold to and how long it took for shipments to arrive.. (drove my husband nuts!) lol.. I thought it was Excel-lent and I loved it!
