| 3 or 4 helpings of stuff and nonsense every week. Come and get it while it's hot. | |||||
Dear Diary ![]() Although I still feel a bit of a newbie, I notice that I've been keeping this blog going now for two months. After a slow start, I now seem to be into the pattern of posting 3 or 4 times a week. Compared to the number of diaries I have started on January 1st and spluttered to a halt mid January this is quite an achievement. Initially I would boot up the computer and sit at the screen, hoping for some form of inspiration, but now I will find myself walking along and see something or hear something and think, "I might blog about that." Frustratingly, by the time I get back and sit at the computer I will have forgotten what I was going to write about. To combat this, I now have a little notebook where I write down suggestions for blogs. One of the greatest motivators for writing is seeing the page view counter slowly clocking up the hits and I am particularly thankful to Marcus and Stu for their comments. As well as writing, I have been using the 360 search facility to find other blogs to read. I must admit to being a bit of a lurker - I will often read something, think of a comment and even start typing it in, only to withdraw at the last minute - afraid of gatecrashing into someone else's group. I acknowledge that this is ridiculous behaviour and I'm going to make a real effort to stop myself doing this. If you are reading this and do the same thing, I'd welcome any comments you'd like to make on this or any posting. The other thing I have started to notice is that I'll have an idea for a blog entry and lo! and behold, someone beats me to it. This happened this evening with Marcus's blog entry - I had only just written in my book this afternoon about my constant frustration with batteries going flat on me and spending my whole life looking at battery charge indicators trying to assess whether I'll have enough to charge take another photo/listen to another podcast or make that phone call. It may be somewhat over-the-top to say that blogging has changed my life, but it has certainly started to make me look at the world around me in a different way. 2006-05-06 22:40:14 GMT

Well done for "sticking at it" as it were, can't seem to figure out the page counters myself, another example of my ignorance no doubt. It is strange sometimes though while lurking you come across a blog entry similar to the one you are penning in your mind. Bit like the Da Vinci Code saga perhaps.

Indeed, though I seriously doubt whether I'll get anywhere near the £44m made by Dan Brown last year. And as for the £3.5m film rights...

ok after your comment about lurkers i had to post a comment...i find myself doing the same thing...reading, thinking i might post a comment and then pulling back and moving on to another page...as for topics to blog about...i just post whatever is on my mind at the moment..if someone wants to read if fine..if not they can move on...nothing earth shattering and mostly i think quite boring but it keeps me entertained...good luck with the pictures...and be brave post comments..lol

Hi Cole. Thanks for the comment - that's a good philosophy on blogging - I think I sometimes spend too much time thinking, "will someone read this?" rather than writing what's really on my mind.

I confess.. I'm a lurker too... Guess we may need to start a Yahoo 12 step program for all of us. I can't count how many times I have written a response.. some quite creative..then never hit the post button after the thought "These people don't know you. What are you thinking??" crosses my mind. Although, I am getting a little bit better about diving in and introducing myself (like I did with you) .. you just had too many things I wanted to comment on. So had to make the committment of admitting I was here.. lol. Although, I still have quite a few people on my favorites list that I haven't admitted to occasional lurking.. I like to watch their blogs and friends comments for a while before I speak up.. sometimes I'm real glad and quickly delete them and feel lucky I didnt speak up!

I am a gate crasher. Since you are a friend of Maija's and Debbi's, I often come to your page and read. I'm sure you know by this point in the afternoon, that I am passing mine quite happily by reading your past blogs. I find them very interesting (Uh, I guess you know that or I wouldn't be writing this comment, I'd be off to someone else's blog.) I have on occasion kept my mouth shut when tempted to comment on a complete stranger's blog. I'll just put them in my favorites and see what they are all about first, like Debbi said in her comment, but if they are on my friends' friends lists, I figure they've seen my name here and there, so they'll know I'm not some lunatic that came out of nowhere. *LOL* |
