My name is Serena. I am a student in AMES Oakleigh. I came to Australia with my husband 8 months ago. Both of us are Taiwanese. In the beginning, I was not used to everything in Australia including the weather, direction of the traffic, language etc. Especially the different language. I couldn't make a casual conversation with Aussies. I felt so embarrassed and depressed. And then I decided to improve my English ability. One of my friends told me there is a place where I can learn English. She gave me a website. So I went to the website and made an appointment with AMES Oakleigh. Now, I learn English with people who come from many different countries. That's a wonderful experience because I can get in touch with a variety of cultures.

In addition to learning in school, I also joined the volunteer program at Monash Volunteer Resource Centre. My teacher told me that I can get improve my English very much if I have a volunteer job and I can help people who really need help too.
