Samhain/All Hallow's Eve October 31st "Now is the time of year in which we pass from light into darkness, symbolized by the death of the God of the sun. At this time, the spirits may roam the Earth along with the living, and the Goddess is in her crone aspect." From Catherine Osborne's sabbat page. DECORATIONS RECIPES Pumpkin Bread EVENTS United States International DESCRIPTION OF HOLY DAYS Seasonal items should decorate the Altar. Grains, gourds, and dried flowers are appropriate. Some extras you might want to lay out are things like apples, tarot cards, runes, hazel nuts, divination wands, a plate of food to be left outside for wandering spirits, and corn bread or a pomegranate in place of crescent cakes. One thing I would suggest is a yellow candle with a sun painted on it. This represents the dying God. The Altar cloth is black, the Altar candles should be red and black.RECIPES Easy Pumpkin Bread Lilith's Pagan Resources notes that "Tasty foods using pumpkin include pumpkin breads and pies, and pumpkin butter. You can even make pumpkin fudge, ice cream, and pumpkin beer. 2 c pumpkin The Celts traditionally carved turnips and 2/3 c chopped nuts gourds for Samhain. As Europe colonized the "New 2 tsp baking soda World," Irish immigrants in the mid-1800s began 3/4 tsp ground ginger using pumpkins instead, partly because they were 3 1/3 c flour easier to carve.
