IST128 WWW - using FTP to search

Exercise #1:

Using ftpsearch.lycos.com, search for FTP files (of any type or All Files) related to the following terms and note whether you received any hits:

Now take those same terms and apply a WWW search using Dogpile.com and note whether you get any hits:

Between FTP and WWW, which resource gave you the most number of hits? Which resource was either highly lacking or under-indexed?


Exercise #2:

What is the first file listed listed under the pub folder (aka directory) and then the "atool" folder on ESRI's FTP site?

If ESRI's WWW site is www.esri.com, what do you think ESRI's FTP site is called and what would be the entire URL?

Use this link to pull up Federal Government Gopher Sites.

Next, goto the Library of Congress gopher site and note what happens.


Exercise #4:

Go to this GOPHER search site and look for files related to fishing, jogging, or exercise. Any hits?
