Who is Guitarzan?

My name is Greg DiGiorgio. I am a hobbyist guitarist; a bedroom player. My son, Josh, helps me wiht this site. I am trying to get him interested in playing guitar, but he runs hot and cold - mostly cold.  He has a wonderful singing voice, but prefers playing with freinds to practicing guitar.

Once upon a time, I played in a garage band called NightFall. With Nightfall, I learned how to play lead and rhythm rock guitar simply because I had to figure out all the parts to songs to show the other guitarplayer what to play. Nightfall covered southern R&R tunes as well as late 70's and early 80's Top 40 songs. We played out several times, but were always hampered by lack of a singer. As soon as we'd work up 20-30 tunes, out the door the singer would go and we'd be left to start over gain with another singer and fifferent songs.

During my stint with Nightfall, I acquired a full Marshall stack housing 8-25 watt Celestion speakers driven by a 100 watt Marshall tube head attached to a Tom Sholtz Powersoak for overdrive at lower volumes. I played a 70's Music Man Stingray II with a flanger pedal. I also had a Moog keyboard synthesizer that I used on a few songs like "Love Hurts" by Nazareth.

During one of our hunts for a new singer, we ended up hiring a singer who is now my wife (and has been for the last 16 years). Soon after, the band dissolved and my new wife and I set out to build a life together. I packed away my guitar and sold my amp, synthesizer, and pedals.

I took a break from the guitar for over 15 years to raise a family and develop a career. Recently, I picked up the guitar again and have been slowly getting better. As far as jazz and fingerpicking acoustic is concerned, I am much better than I used to be back in my R&R days. I am now just getting back into blues and R&R and am struggling a little (but that's part of the fun of it).

As you can tell from my site, I have an attraction to archtop guitars. To me, archtops represent romantic notions about music. The shape and form of an archtop is so much sexier than the lines of solid body electric guitars. In addition, archtops are a favorite instrument of some of my favorite guitarists like George Benson, Wes Montgomery, and George Barnes.

This web site allows me to share some of my musical interests while honing my skills, forcing me to move ahead musically.

So, there you have it - a little information about me and why I put up this web site.
