Mr. Shinichiro
Yamamoto, Director General Policy
Planning and Coordination , Cabinet
Office,
National Leaders, Participating Youth, Distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen – minasan konbanwa! I am privileged to deliver this speech in behalf of all the members of the OBSC Representatives this year. Let me share a trivia to the SSEAYP Family – this year’s batch of OBSC Representatives is the first all-male OBSC batch in SSEAYP’s 30th history. Let us wait for next year’s SSEAYP – an all-female OBSC batch? Let us wait and see. Aside from sharing together the challenges of our work, we also experienced an earthquake in IYEO office last week. But we survived the slight tremors like the rest of the PYs and we are glad to report that - - - SSEAYP Alumni News is ready for printing. I believe the fresh changes we have made in the layout and the write ups would be very interesting for the whole SSEAYP family. The PY’s impressions and the reports of the eight alumni organizations are a must-read. Please wait for your copies. We had a good discussion among ourselves and we have concluded to continue to support our respective alumni organizations and think of more ways to keep in touch with each other. One of our projects in the drawing board is to enhance IT Networking among the ex-PYs. We will draw plans to make this networking program more structured and efficient. We have to confess that like the rest of the ex-PYs, our visit to Nippon Maru when we boarded the ship in Manila, Philippines was filled with nostalgia as we remembered the echoes of our laughter and the sighs of our sadness in the corridors leading to the Dining Hall and the Dolphin Hall. But like all things beautiful, this 30th SSEAYP will also come to an end. There is a purpose and season for all things under the sun, a time for every activity under heaven. We are privileged to be a part of this momentous occasion - the third decade of the SSEAYP tradition. In closing, let me offer this challenge to all my fellow OBSC representatives, NLs and PYs. Like the ABCs we heard in the Commemorative Forum, here is the OBSC challenge: Let us O – Overcome the many challenges of our times. One of the greatest problem we still face is poverty. Poverty not only in material terms but emotional and mind poverty. Another great challenge is the continued commitment to understand each other despite the differences we have. Let us B – Bring hope to each other. Let us S – Support the SSEAYP program /the alumni association Let us C – Continue to keep the SSEAYP spirit alive in our hearts. Sir Again I would like to extend our atmost gratitude in allowing this program to Continue ,I assure you that all your teaching will not be in vain . Domo Arigato.
