A Ballad
No flowers do I have to give,
No castle by the sea,
I offer you a ballad,
With a gentle melody.

I'll speak to you of timeless love,
I'll sing of magic things,
For I am just a poor man,
With naught to give a queen.

Diamonds, pearls and rings of gold,
Are treasures not of mine,
I offer you a simple song,
Of a love as old as time.

The tale was written long ago,
Of a man of simple means,
Who'd given all he had to give,
To fulfill his only dream.
Within a mighty palace,
On a mountain dark and cold,
There lived a lonely princess,
A heart inviolate gold.

He vowed somehow to reach her
And take her far away,
Beyond the cold, cruel fortress,
To a peaceful, tranquil place.

It happened all so long ago,
And though the castle's gone,
The special kind of love they shared,
Somehow still lingers on.

From a poor man to a princess,
I give this song to you,
For within this simple ballad,
Is an age-old love, still true.
