From: Obituaries of Northwest Ohio - 365 Name of newspaper: Unknown "December 9, 1897 Obituary ~~~~~~~ Died, at Manhattan, Kansas, Nov. 30, aged almost 69 years, Mrs. James N. Blain, who will be remembered by the early settlers of this vicinity as Caroline Osborn, the last survivor of the family, and youngest sister of Mrs. Esther Parker. The Osborns came to Hicks- ville in 1836. They were among the first to settle in this great forest. A few only will remember that the father was frozen almost to death while re- turning from Fort Wayne, Ind., where he had been with his ox team for pro- visions. In 1856 the Blains moved to central Kansas, and were among the early pioneers, where they were obliged to endure the hardships and dangers of the border ruffian times. Mr. and Mrs. Blain have been respec- ted and greatly beloved for their nobil- ity of character. They, with their daughter Charlotte, have been living quietly and peacefully on their beauti- ful farm, a few miles from Manhattan, and near the Kansas river, where they located upon their arrival. Eight children were born to them, five of whom are living. Her life from youth has been filled with kindly deeds. Her name will be cherished and sweetly re- membered, not only by her immediate family, but by the few friends and rela- tives who are yet living here." ========================================================== Transcribed by Gloria Odom from her record: OSBORN KS2 - 2/1999.
