It is common to give libations to the Faerie in honor of them, for they are spirits of nature and wondrous in all their ways.  Some give libations in hopes that the Fae might help them with their garden or farm.  Other times, they may be given in order to draw faeries into view.

    Some Faerie libations include:

  • Milk
  • Honey
  • Bread
  • Fresh Water
  • Gemstones
  • Trinkets
  • Flowers

To play an instrument or sing is a truly effective way of drawing Faeries.  I can do neither, but certainly wish that I could.  To those who have the talent: be appreciative and spread the good sound to Faerie ears.

Placing a bouquet of flowers at the edge of a pond is said to help draw out spirits, or possibly even the guardian, of the water.

A good housewife of olden times was expected to leave out a bowl of fresh water by the hearth for Faeries to wash their babies in.

Milk and bread are especially liked by the Faerie folk, since they cannot make these things themselves.

I used to go hiking every afternoon in the mountains near my home.  I brought a small wooden bowl and mini container of milk each time as an offering to the Fae.  Soon into my ventures I discovered a nice ravine and made it the place to give my offerings.

Before leaving each time, I would set the bowl on a rock, fill it with milk and lay pieces of bread nearby.  Mentally I would offer them as gifts... sometimes whisper my heartfelt offering.  The next afternoon the bowl would be empty and bread gone.  Did I care if it were Faeries that stole away my gifts?  Not really.  In truth, I suspected the culprits to be coyotes.  But the gesture of love and offering was never-the-less received by my Faerie friends.

Somewhere I  learned that Faerie folk do not often take gifts in physical form.  That is to say, they take the astral substance (after all, they themselves exist mostly in the astral realm).  This makes the most sense to me, and is yet another reason why I need not care whether it was coyotes or Faeries who took the bread and milk.  Perhaps they both took it.  What a nice result of a caring gesture!  (I love coyotes and would like to give them a full tummy.)
