This is where I talk about what I feel is important: Politics, Life, Family,
Bits and Pieces

Well, this weekend is going to be fun.  First, my son's cat finally drank water last night.  I realize that is not all that exciting, but when you have had to take a cat (who hates a kennel) to the vet three times in one week in order to put fluids back in him, it is exciting when he finally drinks water out of his bowl.

Second, the thermometer is supposed to climb into the 90s and possibly top 100.  Now, you must be saying to yourself, why would that possibly be a fun thing, especially since I am a person who hates the heat.  Well, I have central A/C in my condo, so I have just been waiting for it to heat up and really give it a work out.

Third, except for taking Odie to get another vaccination, it should finally be a normal weekend.  The fun started on Memorial weekend when I decided that it was time to cover up the some of the white.  We painted my dining room/study area Seattle Mariner Colors. (I have been meaning to take some pictures, maybe this weekend.)  We painted the hallway a light beige with the same dark blue trim as in the dining room.  Then we also painted my bedroom darker beige with a dusty rose trim.  It reminds me of sandy beach.  We are going to put a border around the top of my walls to complete the seashore look to my room.

Well, the paint went on the walls rather nicely.  We, my brother Pat, Jake and Jake's friend Bryan were definitely getting tired of painting by the time that Monday rolled around, but all we had left to do was the trim.  Trim has to be much easier; after all, it is quite a bit less lineal feet, oh boy were we wrong.  Plus to add to the problems, in the dining room and hallway I had picked Mariner Blue.  Well, we ended up painting trim the next weekend and Pat finished it up on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.  The trim in my room took a while, but I actually got my bedroom back a while before I got my study area back.

Well, I had planned to paint my living room over the 4th of July weekend, but with all the goings on it has been postponed for a while.  Maybe that will be the party to celebrate Jake's 19th birthday on August 12th.  Image

For those who are interested – Part of PSU’s Bachelor’s requirements involves a community service class and project.  The class that I chose was called Media Activism and Social Justice.  We basically learned about the decline of major media independence, how different social groups are represented in media and ways that media establishments try to disguise advertisements.  Our project was the creation of a Media Literacy website.  Right now, our website is located at:  http://web.pdx.edu/~mwk/, but it will eventually be moved to:  http://mediaactivism.unst.pdx.edu/.

We also have a community partner for this community service class/project.  Our partner was Public Media Works.  They are a new non-profit organization that is interested in helping other non-profit organizations promote themselves or a specific project through visual media.  They have a website located at:  http://publicmediaworks.org/ . Eventually our project will either be added to their website or linked to their website.

Yes, that is a view from the west of Mt. Hood. I took it while I was on a Geology Field Trip. We were looking at landslides, but I just noticed the view was gorgeous.
