The majority of the pictures you see on my blog and in my pictures files were taken by myself.  There are a couple of pictures that I have taken from news sites or other websites, but I try to make sure to make it known that it is not mine.

The picture above is of a section of petrified wood that was preserved in lava.  This picture was taken by myself in the fall of 2002, when I was on a Geology field trip.  You can find my road log on my personal website.

The picture that I am using as my background for my 360 blog was taken in early 2003.  It is a picture of Mt. Hood through some trees.  The river that you can see is the Willamette.  This was taken on another geological field trips.  You can find this road log on my website too, but I can see that something has happened to the first two picures, which have now been replaced by some statistics pictures.  I will have to make a note to correct this.

During this stint in college, I had decided that I wanted to take Geology as my lab sceince and I am really glad that I did.  I never realized how many geological formations we have here in and around Portland.  (Other than the Volcanos)  Oregon is full of Oceanic fossils.  This area was underwater for a very long time.

Speaking of Volcanos,  Mt. St. Helens has been active for almost two years now.  She is in the process of rebuilding herself.  Not really a danger, but interesting to watch.    This is a link to the current view of Mt. St. Helens.  You should look around at the Mt. St. Helens website.  They have a lot about what is going on now and what happened May 18, 1980.  I will never forget that day myself.  Living southeast of an erupting mountain can be fun and scary.  Someday, I might have to blog about growing up in Goldendale, WA.
