Bush and His Friends
The last few days have been pretty eventful. First Harriet Meier’s asked President Bush to withdraw her nomination to the US Supreme Court. While I was happy to see Bush nominate a woman to the USSC the idea of her having been dependant on Bush's political positions for the past 10+ years had me a little wary. An even more cautious pause, because she has never been a judge of any kind. Needless to say, I was happy to hear the news when I woke up on Thursday morning. Today’s news that Lewis “Scooter” Libby has been indicted; he is an aide to Vice President Cheney. This is after a two year probe into who leaked the name of a CIA employee to the press in retaliation for her husband’s public disapproval of the plans and eventual invasion of Iraq. While I have not paid attention to the everyday happenings involving this probe, but from what I have heard, I sympathize with the reporter who spent time in jail in order to protect the name of her source for an article that was not even published. I think that being able to prove exactly which person in the current administration leaked the name is next to impossible. I also believe that it was someone near the top, because I remember the effort that was put forth to sell the invasion of Iraq to the American public. It will be interesting to see if any others are indicted in the upcoming weeks. I think that it is despicable that people in the current administration would attack the wife of someone who held a different view into the invasion of Iraq. I think that was is cowardly and childish. 2005-10-28 21:11:01 GMT
