Andreja ZivkovicDear Colleagues, I am writing to say how stimulating I found the sream run by the Odyssey group at the International Institute of Sociology conference in Stockholm, 5-9 July 2005. As someone working in social theory I found it very interesting to reflect on accessibility, mobility and connectivity in relation to existing debates on social transformation. The stream has deepened and expanded my understanding of the potential of ICTs to build structures of encounterability that can over come social exclusion in time and space. best wishes |
Fiona RajeHi Steve Hope Odyssey 2005 went well. I've really enjoyed watching the website evolve since last week and particularly liked 'Excess'. Recent work I've been doing indicates how the transport system (and the arrangements that need to be made around travel) can constrain the scheduling of social activity, so it is great to see this area receiving attention at the Odyssey meeting. Kind regards Fiona Fiona Raje |
Ravi KanburHi Steve: I gather the meetings went very well, thanks to all the efforts of the team--congratulations. As you know I have a long history of interactions with Sweden, and I can picture in my mind all the locations, the hotel, the conference hall, Gamlastaan, the station. Summer in Stockhlom is great. Winter is another matter, although that has its peculiar charms as well. All the best and safe journeys back to all. Cheers, Ravi. -- Ravi Kanbur T.H.Lee |
Jeff TurnerJust like to add my virtual support to Odyssey 2005. The UK is rapidly becoming a key place in the debate around accessibility with the adoption of Accessibility Planning processes for local transport planning. However, the potential for pseudo-technical, non-inclusive, gender-bias transport solutions to be re-constituted under these new processes is very great. There is a need for a change in the culture of transport planning and local governance to reflect the rise of a new techniques and this needs to happen. Hope Odyssey is going well. Jeff Turner |
