First,
event leaders should be willing to more thoroughly announce their event,
instead of just relying on the schedule itself.
The more details available to everyone the greater chances of people
becoming interested in participating. And
of course, that is, what we are all about.
Second, since certain events require advance logistics (ie. reservations, shuttle requirements, equipment, etc.) or require sufficient numbers of people in order to go ahead, you should let the event leader know if you are interested. This will prevent an event from being cancelled due to an apparent lack of interest. It would be good form to notify leaders at least one week in advance for all camping trips. Earlier is definitely better. If
you do not have all of the personal gear required as laid out by the leader feel
free to ask around as sometimes people have spares, or might otherwise know
where you can borrow it. Third,
some events are very dependent on the weather, and in the case of river running,
water levels. Events may not happen
on the planned date, if at all. In
addition, some events require certain skills, experience, and or
endurance. Both event
leaders, and participants, need to be very realistic here. All
members are responsible for their own equipment & safety and recognize the
inherent risks and dangers of outdoor activity. Communication
is essential, not only from a convenience point of view, but from a safety point
of view as well. It has been
suggested that each event be characterized as to the degree of difficulty.
You will see that one of the following labels has been added to each
event on the web calendar and in the newsletter (Easy, Moderate, Difficult, or Strenuous).
Contact the event leader if you have any concerns.
Please pay attention to this, as we will be going into some potentially
dangerous places. (Sounds ominous don’t you think?) Finally,
if you have an idea that could enhance an already planned event, or if you
should come up with a new one, don’t hesitate to let us know.
Submit your plan or idea here.
