It is time for another trip
down to Baxter State Park to do some serious hiking and camping. We
usually save this trip for the 3rd weekend in September and 2005 is no
exception. We would leave after work on Friday and drive to Baxter Park
(thru Houlton border) to the Baxter State Park Northern Entrance (marked
right on the sign) on the I-95. Campsites will be booked at the South
Branch Pond Campground. There are also lean-to's there but we would have
to book those rather early in the new year. The North Side of Baxter Park
is typically not as busy as the South Side (where Baxter Peak is) and has
some very nice trails and quite challenging climbs that would take up a
good portion of the day.
All trails are well marked and
the Park maps give an accurate degree of difficulty of each trail (under
ideal conditions). Everyone should think about this trip as it has always
been fun and challenging and there's always a story to be told later about
moose tramping thru the campsite, or how hot it was, or sore feet, or
grazing on blueberries. A good trip for those of you who have never
experienced Baxter Park and its many trails.
Planning meeting and spaghetti
dinner January 15th.
