Ste.
Croix 400 The summer of 2004 will mark the 400th
anniversary of the French settlement at St. Croix Island, near
Calais, Maine and St. Stephen, New Brunswick.
"This
place was named by Sieur de Mons the Island of St. Croix. Here
seemed to be a paradise, for the weather was warm, fish and deer
were plentiful, and the location was convenient for shipping."
