... A sharp design, a sharp eye, and a sharp chisel will bring out the best in the woods that you choose for your final furniture design. It's not just the design, the wood selection and the working of the wood that makes a piece special. The final choice in the finish and the way it is applied will decide the look and feel of the finished piece. I rarely use acrylic based finishes as they tend to, I find, create a more artifical look and feel. I use shellacs, oil based varnishes, lacquers, and specially mixed highly pigmented paints. The final finish is hand rubbed and waxed. When you rub your hand over one of pieces I make, you will feel the care taken to get it there. Each piece is delivered with a can of high grade furniture wax and instructions for the care and maintenance. Do not use spray one step waxes. My pieces will retain their value, appearance and stability. With proper care and maintenance your piece of furniture will be something that is passed on from generation to generation. Each piece is hand signed and if too far away to be hand delivered will be carefully crated and wraped with a water resistent plastic. I use only solid brass/bronze or stainless steel hardware. I will not make anything that has overlap doors or drawers and do not use European style case hinges. All furniture I design and construct will have rail and stile construction if it a casement piece. I do not use melamines. There will be no leads in my painted pieces and no materials that can gas off, I believe that furniture should be ecologically sound. You shouldn't be allergic to your furniture! More... |
