Bare Facts:Male? ~ Born est.1972 ~ Captured 1972 ~ Died December 1 1974 ~ Mother Sissy? ~ Father Unknown ~ Children None ~ ID Unknown
Canuck was born around 1972, probably to Sissy (J12). He was her first known calf, although since she was about 38 at the time, she had probably had more calves that did not survive.
When he was born, Canuck's family was a small unit made up of his mother, his grandmother Granny, and his uncle Ruffles. He was born 4 years before the study officially started, yet we do know what happened to him, because he was a victim of the nets of the captures.
As far as we know, Canuck was not even a year old when the family was captured, in March 1972. He was taken from his family and sold to SeaWorld. Moved soon after to the SeaWorld park in San Diego, California, he joined a few other young whales. These include Kilroy, Ramu, Kona, Kandu 3, Frankie, and possibly Sandy. It can be assumed that he was trained and participated in shows.
In January 1974, Frankie died. Then, sadly, in December of the same year, Canuck also passed away. He died of candidiasis. He had spent only 2 years and 9 months in captivity.
Canuck's family in the wild is flourishing as his younger sister (whom he never met) has 3 healthy young children.
