What Happened To...?
(OG): I guess the best way to sum up Andy Fox's attitude would be to relay the
tale of how he ruined a perfectly good theater experience for me. He and I
agreed to meet up at a local movie house to check out My Cousin Vinny. He
showed up a little late and met me at the front row. In the middle of the
whole thing he grabs a nearby fire extinguisher and asks me how it works.
I tell him to put it away before we get in trouble, and then he sets it
off, spraying the entire screen with white dust. I was royally pissed, but
he just laughed....a repetitive cackle that haunts me to this day. This is
the kid who once punched Andrew in the stomach....for no reason whatsoever.
Weird.
(AX:) Punched me in the stomach? I think that was someone else. Andy did smack me hard in the face once, though. But first...Andy was part of the original crew at Sequoyah in '89. He and I did most of our hanging out in gym class, where we spent each day disobeying the rules and "not participating". Andy was the first kid I ever knew that smoked & did drugs. It weirded me out a little, but his interest in comic books and making fun of others made up for it. At times, Andy made me feel like I was one of his best friends. Others, I thought he might kill me at any moment. Why? The guy had a temper like you wouldn't believe. I saw him beat a guy's ass for no reason at all once. He was even shorter than me, but made up for his size with that "powder keg" demeanor. Once I was talking to him outside, waiting for the bus. Out of the blue, Andy delivered a forceful smack across my face. There was a hush amongst the students around us. Before I could say anything, he began apologizing. "I'm sorry man, I'm sorry. I thought you said something about my sister." What the fuck??? Yeah. Uh...eventually, Andy dropped out of school when we got to Cross Keys. He called me off and on, but I never saw him or hung out with him.
STATUS:
(OG:) I haven't a clue. Really...I don't. Ask Andrew.
(AX:)I ran into Andy at a party in December 2002. He works for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and still has his great sense of humor and diabolical laugh. He also looks just like he did back then, pretty much. I was amazed at how easy it was t talk to him after not having seen him for probably 10 years. He's a very nice guy.
