What Happened To...?

  • HYDE, HOLLY
  • (OG:) Holly was way ahead of her age when I met her. She was the first taste of sophistication and intelligence I had ever experienced with the opposite sex. This is not to say that the girls we hung around with at the time were stupid, but Holly was a girl who had literally read the dictionary in order to enrich her mind. I respected that immensely, and it influenced me later on (I went through the dictionary thing as well....). She was also extremely sweet, witty, and inspiring. I hope she's doing everything she planned to do in life...and I'm sure it'll be something amazing.
(AX:) Holly Hyde was and will always be a true original. I'd never known anyone like her before, and I haven't since. She had a twisted sense of humor that I adored, and a writing style that I totally envied. To this day, the letters I got from her (in our one year at Cross Keys together) remain the wittiest and most endurably amusing out of anyone else's. The girl had her shit together like you wouldn't believe, proving that reading the dictionary had many rewards. Also, she always had something to say about the girls I dated. We had a hundreds of interesting and hilarious conversations about them. I'll never forget how she described one as a "tuna factory" (I'm laughing now as I write this). Obviously, nothing was too raunchy or out of bounds when it came to her, yet she maintained intelligent and self-controlled the whole time. There were, however, some things about her that didn't make sense. But we've all got our weird quirks, right? No one knows this, but she used to kiss me on the mouth every morning before I left for my Driver's Ed class. Why? I can't recall. A few times, we passed in the hallway and she'd lick my face. Anyway, we did stay close friends during that school year, and saw one another occasionally afterward. The last time I saw her, she came to Somber Reptile to see C.B.C. play a show. In winter '96, we spoke on the phone and made plans to have dinner together. It didn't happen, and I never heard from her again.

    STATUS:

(OG:) Holly and Andrew became really tight near the end of our Senior year, so I faded out of her peripheral vision quickly. I was never bitter about it, but it's a shame our friendship didn't survive Cross Keys.
(AX:) Earlier this year, Holly was spotted at Phipps Plaza by my friends Dan and Chris. They spoke briefly, and Chris got her phone number. From what I know, she didn't ask about me.
