Symphonic Band
The Symphonic Band performed its first concert during October 2000. The addition of the Fall concert was well received by the community. It also demonstrated the level of dedication these musicians have as this was in the middle of marching season and totally different music and style of playing had to performed. It also provided a wonderful venue for the students who were not able to march, but were in the band class to use their musical skills just 7 weeks into school.
The Pops concert in November was a great break before the hectic pace of December and all of it's activities. The Osborne Orchestra Director Mr. Josh Thompson also played with the group on this evening.
The highlight of the season came in March, when the Red Regiment scored straight superior ratings at the District Music Festival. The adjudicators there were known to be tough and to know that you received the highest rating possible was very rewarding. It was easy to see in the faces of the members that they realized the symphonic band camp and extra efforts put in had paid off. This year the pieces performed were:
The Banks of the Bann                             Andrew Poor
           French Country Dance                         Carl Strommen
           Fortress                                                  Frank Tichel
Other concerts included a pops concert in conjunction with Smitha Middle School and the annual Spring Concert. The Spring concert had a variety of musical seletions. A multimedia show accompanied one of the more dramatic and demanding pieces of the evening centering on several musically different African themes.
Of couse, anybody knows that it is the 'clothes that make the man' . With the purchase of new uniforms this year, the Red Rediment looked great and once again a little different than the norm. Thanks to the principal of R. L. Osborne, Dr. U.S. Davidson for facilitating a loan to purchase these unifoms. To pay back the loan there are a number of ways you can help by looking at the
fundraising page.
