A Summary of Events and Topics of Interest to OHS grads and friends
March 27, 2003
Before Bonnie went for her operation, she tried to send me (Bev Shulster '65) all your email addresses. We tried this several times in several different ways, none optimal but hopefully successfully in the end. So, this is an experiment. Appologies to those who don't get this, and to those who get it more than once...
At the time of this writing, a much lighter Bonnie is on vacation, recuperating from her very successful operation. She initially reported feeling as if she'd "been hit by a Mack truck". She is still unable to sit for a long stretch of time at her computer, but is feeling better and better as the days go by. She's already walking without a cane and symptoms of heart failure are fading away. Hurray for Bonnie! Everyone's thoughts and prayers have obviously worked. No reports yet on precise weight loss, but she says her clothes are hanging, so things are obviously going according to plan. We can't wait for the "after" picture.
Bonnie writes that someone out there sent her some beautiful orchids and roses, and didn't sign the card! She wants to thank whoever it was and says "They were lovely and I totally enjoyed them". Bonnie also wants to thank everyone for all the phone calls. She finally had to shut the phone off so she could get some rest. "I'm an extremely LUCKY person to have so many friends." Bon, you deserve every one!
Janis Donahue writes, "A friend of mine just called and said Larry Delgado, Class of '66 or '67 just passed away and his funeral is Monday [March 31] at 11:00 at the Park Blvd. Presbyterian Church in Oakland." If anyone has any other information, please let us know. And just so that I can properly list Larry on the Memorial site, can someone let me know what class he was in? He is not pictured as an underclassman in my '65 yearbook. Write to me at bbevy@012.net.il if you know.
On March 3, the Class of 1964 lost another of its grads, Brian Joseph Fuhrig. According to the online obituary, "Friends are invited to attend the Memorial Service at Sorensen Bros. Mortuary, 1140 B St., Hayward, CA on Saturday, March 29, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. SORENSEN BROS. MORTUARY (510) 581-1234 or (510) 351-1451".
Tom Burke, '70, is posting "Letters Home" from his son Jeff, serving in with the Marines in the Gulf. You can find this special page on his Old Oakland site at www.oakland.yearbookhigh.com and are invited to send any letters or photos of your soldier sons and daughters who are also in the Gulf. I can nervously report that one of my own sons has been called up for reserve duty here in Israel, and the other is on call in the event any bombs fall here. We are braced for the moment when Saddam's back is to the wall and he lets loose with all he has, and keep our gas masks within reach at all times. How we wish it was P.C. to both give and to voice our appreciation to the allied forces in the thick of this war. Unfortunately, the world doesn't work that way. Still, anyone who wants to can honor and support the forces online. Predictably, it is National Military Appreciation Month http://www.defendamerica.mil/nmam.html .
May Peace come soon to all,
Bev

Diana Fisch reports having seen Roger Sexton, Skyline '64 on "Survivor" February 24. Anybody else spot him?
I repeat here the passing this week of Larry Delgado, '66 or '67 and send condolences to his family. His name will be placed on the Memorial site as soon as it is determined which class he was in.
There have been many, many updates to the memorial pages, mostly from the early years -- far too many names to mention this time. Take some time and look through the site.
Bonnie got some GREAT material during her hospital stay so,......WATCH THIS SPACE!
Ooops, forgot to get the answers to last time's teasers....
