you sing
with chords intermittent—
rhythmic sharp shrill plucking of strings
by hind legs bent

as bow
and as chitin fiddle
stroking staccato notes high, low,
in the middle

of night’s
still chilled, heavy, inert
air. Play the ballad of your plight
amongst the dirt.
