Pottery Technique Magazine is a series of 18 pages of diagrams showing the steps in the making of a range of pottery forms. Plus there are extra diagrams of broader aspects of the pottery process.

Pottery Technique Magazine.

Set out here are images of some of the steps involved in making pottery. These can be invaluable in seeing what actions are needed and in what sequence. Of course it is better to watch a potter in person.

Observe the finer points of an action and then emulate them. Often they are to the practitioner, unconscious, unreasoned actions. Word descriptions or instructions are generalised and can never reveal the finer

placement of fingers and tools, the minor sequence of events, nor highlight a fleeting element of a process or technique. All this is up to the student to observe. Watch what you are doing, and clear the mind.

The following are merely examples and should not be taken to be an unchangeable repertoire.
