>>> This is a pic of Stan Herd putting some last minute "field dressing" on our CRNA in the field...being "supervised" in the MDA style had a few onlookers, but most were inside the hangar waiting for the festivities to commence.

>>> Left to Right: Juan Quintana, Tom McKibbon, Mr. Gushea (in background with stocking cap),Labamba, Larry Snyder, Dan Gagner (background in white), Tony Luciano, Mrs. Larry Snyder (barely visible), Thom Bloomquist (in hat), Steve Wrynewyski (the spellings way off, but it's close). In the hangar awaiting the start of festivities.

>>> This is Mayor Wagnen addressing the assembled CRNA's, with comments indicating she had a very good knowledge of who and we were and what we are all about. MC Mike Barts is seen to the left with his white lab coat on.

>>> Tom Cox, a representative of the Kansas Hospital Association, greets and applauds the efforts of those attending.

>>> Kim Zweygardt talks with the group about where her idea came from and generally brings everyone up to speed on the FOD project

>>>Stan addressing the group, giving his perspective of the project, it's meaning, development, brief description of the work, and stating his satisfaction with the end product.

>>> This is Stan Herd, standing in the back of the hangar, listening to speeches and complimentary words of his work...he seems pleased!

>>> Dan Gagner changing into his scrubs...getting ready to go out into the breezy day's festivities...and for a Floridian, it was pretty darn cold...Dan told me so!!

>>> This is a group picture of the Kansas CRNAs who attended the FOD ceremony...too fun.

>>> After a rousing round of grabass, multiple flybys, and Gropehugs, everyone dove into the coat pile (having been moved from various small piles and placed into one huge pile off-camera). Here everyone is quickly getting into SOMEONE elses clothing, perhaps, but into warm clothes nonetheless...back to the hangar for warmth, coffee, and helicopter rides.

>>> These are 2/3 of the fleet taking the FOD's over our field...the fixed wing at the left is Doris' plane...the helicopter on the right belongs to Roger Frost, a CRNA from (I think) north central Kansas...he flies this little number to his 7 hospitals...providing pain management services. My wife was standing next to me while I heard this story...I turned to her and without a word from me proclaimed: "Don't even think about it!" The woman has NO sense of humor.

>>> Here's Tony about to take off for his aerial view of "A Sacred Trust" in the legocopter...he almost fit really well.

>>> Here is a member of the Kansas contingency as he lifts off heading for our FOD's (sorry, but I don't know the man's name) and he is filming the entire ride...and much of the rest of the day!

>>> Here is SRNA Shane (a KU student) leaving the helo pad after he had (1) had his very first helicopter ride and (2) after he had seen "A Sacred Trust" from the air...he has that same telltale grin as EVERYONE had after their return from their viewing of the Stan Herd masterpiece. It was so interesting, as each person returned from their ride, they each had the same huge smile of their faces!! I think it was at this moment, when they saw the image after having stood in it that each of us truly realized what we had here!! It was inspiring to watch each FOD'r return with the precise same response.

>>> Staying out of the brisk KS breeze, noticeably less at this end of the hangar, was: Mike Barts, Squeege, my bride Karen, Larry Snyder's bride (they flew in from Taylorville, IL for the occasion -- way to go Larry!!), and another lady to whom I had not been introduced -- my loss and my apologies to the lady.

>>> After loading Thom Bloomquist into the legocopter, Doris heads back to the staging area with Thom's now infamous hat and cane...Thom realized he needed neither for the next ten minutes or so. Doris was an absolute trooper...she is carrying the notebook in which all those interested in a helicopter ride had signed up for their aerial view of the project...she dutifully checked off each person as they loaded up for their ride and if she was or wasn't aware that they had contributed to ME for their ride...and all this for no commission...but, she did get to sleep with the boss...sometimes a bonus!!

>>> A young daughter anxiously awaits the return of her flying mommy...Kim returns after her flight over her dream project.

>>> Here's Kim after she landed from her recent trip over the Land of Ahhhh's...a big thumbs UP!! And there's that ubiquitous smile again...that's how I know she's coming and not going!!

>>> While Fred talks things over with the pilot, Kim jumps out and with Doris holding the door for Kary to climb in...I even overheard some talk that there may be a helicopter in the Zweygardt family garage in the very near future...remember, Kimmy, you can't get any tickets up there...and you're flying legal!!

>>> Even though Squeege flew herself and her sister to Topeka from Dallas, she still gets that big smile when she sits in the right hand seat of a new ride.

>>> Willing to try anything once...and some things more than that...my bride, Karen, comes back to terra firma after seeing a very special sight...not a CRNA, but she is delighted with what she has seen nonetheless...and she sleeps with a CRNA...what better deal can a gal get?!!!

>>> After being very patient and playing nice, it is my turn to take a ride...and this was the glorious view that I received on my first pass over "A Sacred Trust."

>>> Here is a little better, closer view...captured on my second pass around the field.

>>> Here is my view through the windscreen of those waiting in the staging area: left to right, of those I know -- Juan Quintana wearing my coat (he was freezing his ass off and I took pity on him...Texas guy and all that, he really didn't come prepared for the breeze in the Land of Ahhh's..and I had brought another jacket and long underwear), Tony Luciano, Jon Blumb (our official photographer -- a pro), Doris Hetrick (with her back to the camera and still keeping the riders lined up and moving), Thom Bloomquist, my roommate Karen behind Dan's right hand, Dan Gagner, Squeege (behind Dan's right ear), Larry Snyder (he and Louise were undoubtedly swapping some flying stories -- they both flew in their own planes for the day), and then 5 folks I can't make out. One question: Dan, what were you telling the pilot to do????

>>> After a cool day, we settle in for a hot nite. We all gathered in the bar area and rehashed the fun we had all experienced earlier in the day. Judy Daus, Don De Grazio, Thom Bloomquist, Tony Luciano, waitress plying her trade, Labomba (background), Janell Allen (Bill's wife -- foreground), Mike Barts.

>>> The table of honor: Doris, Fred Hetrick, Kim, Kary, Stan Herd (barely seen), Carolynne Swart getting her shirt autographed by Stan, and Janell Allen (Bill's wife). The chillens around the front side of the table are Zweygardts and Herds (and a friend).

>>> Stan gets up to go get his free t-shirt...thought it was the least we could do, right?

>>> Long time friends Stan and Kim thank each other for their making each other a part of something special.

>>> Mike Bart gets his shirt autographed by Stan Herd...somewhat unique way to do it. I remember when Elvis did something like this and he got in quite a bit of trouble with the girl's daddy...but that's another story.
