Best Tour Experienceplaying a biker festival in Italy with Dio. He's always been my fave singer, so to do a show with him was cool. He also was a bloody nice bloke which topped it off. Playing Brazil was also special.

At the age of 14, Haydn's first guitar was an old '66 Gibson SG that he purchased from money saved earned during an early acting career. As a child he appeared in some films, TV plays and commercials, but quit when 'they' wanted him to get a haircut! He first started playing guitar after a friend who was doing the sound for a band took him to a see a gig. One year after that gig, he was onstage playing guitar for them. The band's name was RAMPANT, which incidentally, was the first band of DEF LEPPARD drummer Rick Allen. Early influences of Haydn's include Randy Rhoads, Angus Young, and Michael Schenker, to name a few. Also influenced by Ritchie Blackmore after seeing him play at the 1980 Donnington Monsters Of Rock (which included SAXON on the bill), Haydn added a Strat to his guitar arsenal. Then he got his Les Paul, but what he really wanted was a Gibson Flying V with a Marshall stack, this all because of one song: Born To Lose by UFO - Michael Schenker's guitar solo in that song blew away Haydn.

He later joined another local cover band called STATELINE, and at the first rehearsal the other guitar player had his dream guitar - the 1970 Gibson Flying V. Haydn bought the guitar from him immediately and has used it for almost all recordings he's made. Around 1982, after answering an ad in a local paper and auditioning with the songs 'Still In Love With You' by THIN LIZZY and 'Here Again' by RUSH, Haydn secured a position in the band SARACEN at age 17. (It was at this time he had the guitar customized by spraying it white and adding a Kahler tremolo.) SARACEN then began writing songs for their upcoming album, and Haydn has vivid memories of writing his first song with Jason Gardner (Bassist) at 3:00am after a big drinking session!. The SARACEN album 'Change Of Heart' was released in 1984, but the band split soon after. Haydn and Jason started up a fairly successful covers band shortly after. Since then Haydn was in several similar covers bands and also did session work for various bands. Only a couple of years ago Haydn was asked to play on an ABBA tribute album, which went gold.

Haydn started his friendship with Graham Oliver one night while playing in a covers band where Graham was in the audience. They met after the show and got on really well. Around the same time as this Haydn spotted an ad for a guitarist and went for an audition. To his surprise it turned out to be Steve Dawson and Nigel Durham. Haydn was offered the job and they recorded some demos ('2 Late', 'More Foolin', and 'Join Hands') which later appeared on Steve's solo album 'Pandemonium Circus'. Different commitments pushed them separate ways, but fate pulled them back together. One day Haydn received a phone call from Graham Oliver who told him he was talking to Pete Gill and Steve Dawson about putting a band together. Feeling a bit awkward Haydn said "I'm sorry for asking this, but, when you're thinking of another guitarist would you bear me in mind?" to which Graham replied "That's what I'm calling you for, come and play!". With Haydn now officially in SON OF A BITCH, they started work on 'Victim You'.
