Above : More information is needed about the above photograph, in particular, who are the two little girls depicted ?. The shop is now a private house at the end of the terraced row next to the Fox Inn. When I was a boy in the village (1970's), the store was kept by Ted and Evelyn Chamberlain.
(02.10.01) Terry Burke of Tuscon, Arizona (of Thringstonian descent) has e-mailed us, identifying the above shop as then belonging to Cecilia Mann and Ernest Gee - Many Thanks !

Above : Bessie Moore's Beer-off, situated at the top of Dust Hill (now 'Whitwick Moor'). Later kept by Joe and Gertie Tugby and commonly referred to as 'The Top Shop' by villagers at the 'bottom end'. The premises ended its commercial life as McGahan's Video Shop before finally becoming a private house, circa 1990. The building is now owned by Mr Alan Young.

Above : 'The Round House' or 'Thripny-bit House'. This rather quaint structure stood at the road junction of Sandholes (Talbot Lane) and Ned Hicken's Hill (Talbot Street). Once a blacksmith's shop, the building was later used as a surgery by Dr Rowan, before the Homestead Road surgery was built. Sadly the Round House was demolished in about 1970, another landmark lost forever.
