Tartan Thringstone

{thistle}

The village of Thringstone long seems to have had an intrinsic Caledonian connection.

The parish church is dedicated to Andrew, the Scottish Patron Saint; Mary Catherine Macaulay, the wife of Charles Booth, came from a distinguished line of Highland gentry; Dr William Whitelaw Muir began his practice here at the "Braemar" surgery when the NHS was still in its infancy, and Gary McAllister, the former Scotland Football Captain lives on the village fringe at Gracedieu Warren.

During the early 1960s, many Scottish families came to Thringstone on colliery transfers to live on the Woodside Estate and within ten years a Rangers Supporters Club had been built.

So, it should come as no surprise that the founding Webmaster of 'Thringstone Online', James 'McKilt', is himself profoundly Scottish ('n prood ayet!)

{Sam Jardine}

Above :Piper Sam Jardine, seen here at the top of John Street, possibly during Silver Jubilee celebrations in 1977. The lad smiling at Sam is Jeff Johnson, while we believe the boy in the white T-shirt to be John Steel and the wee lassie on the bicycle to be Sandra Stewart.
