Although scientific psychology and psychiatry is hardly older than a century we can find psychological thought and wisdom in works of great self-observers like St. Ignatius, St. Theresa of Avila, St. John of the Cross, St Francis de la Salle and others - since the masters of spiritual life were in the same person masters of pychological orientation, too. There was no integration because there was yet no distinction, now looking back we are in the vantage point to see where they did indeed psychotherapy through spirituality. This study might be very fruitful for a fruitful development of philosophy and psychotherapy with spiritual orientation and for a spirituality that takes into consideration the reality of human psyche.
