Faith and reason
"Faith and reason are like two wings on which the human spirit rises to the contemplation of truth"
Christian Philosophy

In her book Finite and Eternal Being Edith Stein (Sister Teresa Benedicta) makes the case for their being such a thing as "Christian philosophy". This argument along with what philosophy is and what its goals are is made in the first 30 pages of this 600 page very technical book translated from the German.

I would say that at least these first 30 or so pages ought to be a 'must read' material for anyone interested in or studying philosophy. Basically the argument is -if I understand it right-that the goal of philosophy is to know the meaning of all that is. Following Malebranche, part of what is is faith and what faith knows. Just as what science contributes to what I know, so does faith contribute and therefore the knowledge of the meaning of all that is must include faith and when it does it is Christian philosophy. Following Maritain, Edith Stein also notes that philosophers are working under conditions of a certain weakness - namely, Original Sin and the condition of reality in this regard. Therefore, besides all of reality being beyond human capacity, it is beyond human ability in this sense. Faith and revelation add to philosophy what philosophy cannot or has not come to know of all that is; thus, one can say that theology makes philosophy more complete and guides what it can know and controls where it ought to go.

A corollary of all this is that just as "pure reason" and philosophy as a science which ignores faith will fall short of its goal to know the meaning of all that is, so will psychology that ignores faith and the things of faith fail to know the human person and the meaning of a person.
