STEP11 : You can change the name of the layer by double clicking "it"
adjust the base skin and the w/ buttons skin's opacity to 50%  (or something, it is up to you) leave the no buttons' version on 100% opacity.  It should look like something like this(below).
step11
step11
STEP12 : Le'z talk about the icons.  The "eye" indicates the layer's visibility, either it is invisible or visible (visibility depends on the layer's opacity, check STEP11), Compare these 2 pictures (right) and see what I mean.

I'm sorry but I cannot demonstarte to you in this tutorial on what that "paintbrush icon" means.  But here's a hint:  it indicates the layer you are working on, there for example, you only want to work on a certain layer so click the paintbrush icon and the other layers will not be affected (jes' try it yerself OK!  Create at least 2 layers, add a new layer by pressing
Ctrl+Shift+N and start doin' scribbles on that layer only and when you click the eye icon, the other layers aren't affected).

Theres' another trick, the layer order, I can't show you here but it is kinda like a sandwich, you can only see the layer that is on TOP, simply drag the layer up or down to order it. (???)
step12
STEP13 : Now here's the "fun" part!  designing the buttons.  Be sure you are working on the "no buttons" layer or simply create a NEW LAYER (Ctrl+Shift+N) on top of all the layers and start... designing (redundant)
step13
STEP14  : After finishing your design, BEFORE YOU SAVE IT, Click "Image" > "Mode" > "Indexed Color" to reduce the file size (Adobe Photoshop, if you are using Paintshop PRO, select "Colors" > "Reduce Colors"). After changing it to Indexed Color save it as a .bmp (press Ctrl+Alt+S), save it in a NEW FOLDER and USE THE SAME FILENAME (which is "cbuttons.bmp"), I named my new folder "ff9_vivi1"
step15
STEP15 : Now time to check out what we (I...) have done so far...
STEP16 : Do the same for ALL the parts!!! (almost all the parts actually, I didn't skin the mini browser and the Avs.bmp which can be found in the "base skin" folder)
step17
STEP17 :  After editing all the images, you will see that there are "missing parts" (the playlist and visualizer), you cannot edit this in Adobe Photoshop because these two files (Pledit and viscolor) are TEXT FILES, so just copy and paste "viscolor.txt" and "pledit.txt" from your old skin to your new skin.
Now our milky shite skin is finished! ^_^  Now isn't that SIMPLE (yeah right! it took me 10HOURS!!! but usually 5 hours)
finished product!
A LIL' TIP :
Think of a theme for the skin, for example, my favorite Escaflowne skin [picture], the theme here is transparent baby blue buttons, in my vivi skin (above), the theme is hollow buttons and when you press 'em, they turn blue!  get it???
