The Ayakashi sisters weren't that interesting to me until I finally bought the R season in Japanese. Somehow, their personalities are much more vibrant and compelling in Japanese. Stupid DiC! *quivers*. *cough*. Anyway.
There are four Ayakashi sisters, which my subtitles refer to as the "Phantom Sisters". Works for me. Petz, the oldest, then Calaveras, Beruche, and Cooan. I can never pick a favorite - they're too into makeup and boys for me ><. If forced to, probably either Cooan or Petz (because of her and Safiel! *cries*. We'll go into that later).
In anime, the sisters work with Rubeus and try to capture crystal points to eventually capture the city of Tokyo. They fail miserably, of course, and one by one are turned to the good side. The senshi manage to reveal to them that they are simply pawns in Rubeus' plan for glory and power, and they show the sisters love and friendship taht they were missing out on in the Black Moon Clan (apparently they didn't hang out with Safiel and Dimando much! *sniffs indignantly*). Cooan turns first, then Beruche, and next Calaveras and Petz. Lucky that they turn, for they end up saving Safiel's life when Wiseman blasts him to Earth. It's then that it's revealed that Petz and Safiel have a relationship, but Wiseman kills Safiel before we really get to learn about it.
In manga, that relationship was non-existent. The sisters solely worked for Rubeus and were killed, one by one. Almost as pitiful as droids. *grr* That is one of the rare times that I like the anime story more than manga.
The Phantom sisters are each parallel to a senshi. Petz - Jupiter, Calaveras - Venus, Beruche - Mercury, and Cooan - Mars. They have powers similar to their corresponding senshi, but "dark". "Dark Thunder!" "Dark Water!" "Dark Fire!" Also they are all obsessed with make-up, clothes, and Rubeus. Cooan, perhaps, loved him a bit more than the others. But he treated her with the same dirty attitude as the rest of them.
And that's about it! The only members to turn to the side of good and live - if only little Dimando, Safiel, Rubeus, and Esmeraude had seen the light sooner..*sniffles*.
