Review
David Grossman published the following game report in the December 3rd edition of the Toronto Star,

The wreckers hadn't yet arrived to tear down Varsity Stadium but the Richview Saints, in the last game to be played at the famous but dilapidated site, did some demolition work of their own.

Richview, taking advantage of Central Tech's frequent mistakes, turnovers and an unbelievable 17 penalties, embarrassed the Blues 37- 0 yesterday in the Toronto Bowl high school football championship.

In one of the worst beatings on a Central Tech squad, the Blues may have had an inclination that things weren't about to go their way after giving up a touchdown before the Richview offensive squad took to the field.

On the fourth play of the game, Dan Pryma blocked a Guillermo Garcia punt in the end zone and then fell on the loose ball. From that moment on, the blowout picked up steam and the teams went in different directions.

Richview's 6-foot-2 pivot Chris Mokriy was good on 9 of 12 passes for 239 yards, including 22-yard and six-yard TD strikes to Ryan Wickel. Tom Flaxman scored Richview's other major on a 37-yard pass- and-run play.

Flaxman, a 235-pound fullback who missed three games late in the season with an ankle injury, carved up the Blues for 106 yards on nine carries and added 72 more on pass receptions.

"The blocked punt for a touchdown set the tone and the line opened the holes big time," said Flaxman, chosen as The Star's game most valuable player.

"We knew they were an aggressive team and expected Central Tech to come after us, but it turned out to be a day in which we could do pretty much what we wanted."

Richview finished at 10-0.

"Who would have expected a blowout like that against Central Tech and to run the ball so easy?" winning coach Al Craigie said.

The Saints were ahead 27-0 at halftime.

Central Tech coach Chuck Wakefield couldn't believe his team threw up the white flag so early.

"It's ridiculous," he said. "This is a championship and you can't take 17 penalties against a team like Richview and still expect to get anywhere."

Said Blues linebacker Tristan Black: "They walked all over us and it was like some little kid slapped you in the face and you couldn't do anything about it."
