Resume of
the last articles in the blog:
Wikimedia
Commons
Imagine a website with more than 100.000 images that can be
used
in other projects, by other persons and companies. Images that can be
used legally, at zero cost, and without the need to ask permission; for
commercial and non-commercial purposes.
It's only required that you giver credit to the photographers or
designers who produced the photos in the projects that include them.
Some images can only be used in projects that are licensed under a
specific license. Projects that grant this same rights to its users.
Most images you can find in Commons are
"information-type" images. It's purpose is to be used in encyclopedias,
educational books and news stories.
All images I post in the "Wikimedia Commons" are licensed under "Creative
Commons", and they can be used
to commercial and non-commercial
purposes. However they can't be used in projects under
copyright
that do not have a free license, one that is similar to the license I adopted.
Wikinews
Wikinews is the open online newspaper where anyone can help. In
Wikinews there aren´t opinion articles, and the news text can
be
improved by any user.
Everything in Wikinews can be changed by any user: texts,
images
and website design. Like any other wiki-based website, if
your
contribution is not good for the project, it can be erased or changed
by another user.
Wikipedia
The biggest online encyclopedia is free. Free to read, free to
copy and free to improve its content. The
Wikipedia does not show advertising, and it's an excellent source of
information about everything.
Wikipedia works thanks to thousands of volunteers (297076 in
the English language
and 10309 in the Portuguese
language) I'm just one more.
366 Photographs on the Beach
Its a wiki book to select 366 photographs made on the beach, the
selection criteria is mostly aesthetic. All the 5 continents are
represented.
Every photograph must have a free license, so it can be used for free
in other projects either commercial or non commercial. However any
project that uses them has to be licensed with a free license, and it
has to display the photographers name. Dmoz
The Open Directory Project is the biggest directory of
websites
in
the world edited only by humans. It covers any subject in practically
any language. It has about 4 million links to websites cataloged in
half a million categories.
Dmoz is totally run by volunteers and its content is free. Websites
like Google
and Alexa use contents of
dmoz. I
edit the categories of Art
and Entertainment related to Portugal,
in Portuguese language.
