What is Light Rail ?
WHAT IS LIGHT RAIL?
Light Rail is the modern re birth of the Trolley. Light Rail uses small rail vehicles and most systems use eletric power. Some however use small diesel powered cars.

HOW DO THEY OPERATE?
A Light Rail system usually operates continually with increased service during rush hours. Most systems feature trains running about every 5-15 minutes depending on the level of service.

HOW FAST WILL LIGHT RAIL GO?
It depends on what part of the route we are on. In some areas light rail trains can operate up to 50 mph. However in areas wher trains operate in the street the speed may be much lower. The average speed including stops, etc is about 20-25 mph. This is much faster than a gridlocked I-4.

WHAT KIND OF TRACKS DOES LIGHT RAIL USE?
Light Rail uses it's own tracks that can be laid in the street, on an elevated structure, in a tunnel, or on a private right of way. Light Rail tracks are the same as regular railroad tracks with 4' 8 1/2" between the rails.

WON'T LIGHT RAIL HOLD UP LOCAL ROAD TRAFFIC?
No light rail trains will pass through intersections in just a few seconds. Some systems coordinate traffic signals with trains as not to disrupt street traffic.
