What is Commuter Rail ? |
WHAT IS COMMUTER RAIL? Commuter Rail is a scheduled train service using coventional trains on existing railroad routes. WHAT KIND OF A TRAIN IS THIS? This is a regular passenger train powered by a diesel locomotive. The train runs from one point to another and then reverses back. Most commuter trains have a cab on both sides to avoid turning the train. HOW DO THEY OPERATE? Trains are set up on a schedule, usually around the rush hours. Most commuter systems usually schedule trips toward the city in the morning and out of the city at night. WILL MORE TRAINS ACTUALLY CAUSE MORE TRAFFIC JAMS? No as commuter trains usually are through railroad crossings with in a few seconds. WILL MORE TRIPS BE ADDED? Usually if a system is successful, other trips may be added. Lately there has been an expansion of commuter rail networks in the United States, some have even involved the rebuilding of unused railroad routes. HOW WILL THIS HELP US IN ORLANDO? The proposed commuter train will be an alternative to I-4 and US 441 for commuters. IS THIS THE BULLET TRAIN? No the proposed bullet train will link Orlando to other Florida Cities. If planners do their job a commuter system could link to the high speed train when it is built. RETURN TO MAIN PAGE |
