The Southern Railway was operating its own passenger department at this time rather than join Amtrak.

Train #5,The Piedmont ran from New York to Charlotte with coaches only.

Train #1, The Southern Crescent ran from Boston to Birmingham with coaches from Washington to Birmingham, Washington to New Orleans(operated four days a week), Washington to Atlanta, Boston to Atlanta(tri-weekely), Boston to New Orleans(tri-weekly), Boston to Birmingham(four days a week), sleepers from Washington to Atlanta, Boston to Birmingham(four days a week), Boston to Los Angleles(tri-weekly), dining cars from Washington to Atlanta and Atlanta to New Orleans((tri-weekly), parlor-dome Atlanta to New Orleans(tri-weekly).

Train #7, Washington and Lynchburg Train coaches only from Washington to Lynchburg, Virginia.

Train #3,coach only train from Salisbury to Asheville.
