For my better than 20 years of Naval service, I, and others in my rating, went "nose-to-nose" with Soviet/Russian submarines during the "Cold War". Though they were "the enemy", we nonethele s respected and admired the courage and expertise of the Soviet/Russian submariner. At the end of the day, whether we wore the gold fouled anchor or the red star, we were shipmates; sailors all. Thus, this tragedy has struck home and I, along with my col eagues both retired and active duty, grieve and mourn for your loss. May their souls rest in peace. Fair winds...
