YAOI is an abbreviation of "yama-nashi, ochi-nashi, imi-nashi" which means "no climax, no resolution, no meaning". It tells of male/male relationships, of all variety. It is the same as the term SLASH, the Western version of yaoi. SHONEN AI (which literally means "boy's love") is the term when in the story, the boys who are paired together don't go all the way, only kissing and hugging and expressing their undying love to each other.
YURI, on the other hand, is the opposite of yaoi, and it defines female/female relationships. I don't know the equivalence of this to the Western. But I do know that it was called Yuri because, in earlier manga with female/female pairings, one of the girls were usually named "Yuri". Current yuri are in Gundam Wing, Mulan, and, slightly, Dual.
SHOTAKON / SHOTA is when you take two boys, either one or both of them under-aged, and pair them together. If you go to the Flame of Recca page, you'll see fics labeled such, with Kaoru Kogenai (being 13) and Tokiya (being 17) or Kurei (being 20) being partnered, as well as the Hunter x Hunter fic I wrote of Gon being partnered to Hisoka. The word is an abbreviation of "Shota complex". Shota is a common name of a boy in Japan.
INCEST is, of course, when two people who are blood-related, most especially siblings, fall in love with each other or have sex. Examples of this will be found in the B'T X and Fushigi Yuugi page. It is also mentioned (although minor) in the Hunter x Hunter fic in the Uncategorized section.
LEMON is when two people, either both male, both female, or male and female, or any species of any number have sex in a fic and it is graphically performed. Please don't read if you are below 18. I don't want to get sued. Thanks.
So, please, if you're not into these kind of things, PLEASE don't read those fanfics. Don't even try to glimpse them! Or if you DO read them, don't flame me, because I wrote this already and put the marks beside the titles so you won't make the mistake of pointing at them.
Sorry for being a little harsh but I am tired of getting some flames from people asking me if I'm a freak. There are other terms I will be using here. One of the biggest is going to be OOC which means Out Of Character. I hate making Out Of Characters but my muses tell me so. Don't blame me. X-over means it will be a crossover. I rarely do these, but one of the examples is in Touch.
Alt Univ is an abbreviation of alternate universe, wherein I don't follow the correct end, or something from the series. Milk, a friend of mine, uses a lot of alt univ. You can find one of my alt univ in the Dual series. Songfic means I put songs in the middle of the story but it stands alone. Musicvid is when there's a song and I describe what the character of the story are doing, like a music video. I'm NEVER going to make another one again as long as I live. In those vids, I plead temporary insanity.
Happy Reading!
